My Story
Hi, I’m Alice, a published children’s picture book author based in the United Kingdom. I currently have three children’s picture books published: Grumpy Gus and The Midnight Owl, Wicked Whispers Among Whiskers, and The Princess of Pumpkin Palace, with more books currently in development.
I began writing children’s picture books around six years ago after deciding to turn my ideas into written stories. Since then, I’ve developed a strong interest in creating engaging worlds and characters for young readers, with a focus on imagination, storytelling, and meaningful themes.
Outside of writing, I enjoy walking my sausage dog, Gus, learning the Italian language, and travelling to Italy whenever I can to experience the culture and scenery.
How it all started
In 2020, my family persuaded me to start writing children’s books after hearing the rhymes I’d made up about Gus (I told you I was a crazy sausage dog mum!). However, I had no idea how to take those ideas any further.
I signed up for an informative children’s book course, which helped me write Grumpy Gus and The Midnight Owl, my debut book.
After finishing Grumpy Gus and The Midnight Owl, I was motivated to create more children’s books – and I haven’t stopped writing since.
I get ideas for my children’s books at all sorts of times during the day; occasionally, they even come to me while I’m doing the dishes! Other times, it might be a few lines I hear on the radio that make me think, I can turn that into something!
But my favourite part of writing children’s books is seeing the story come together with the help of my illustrator, Iva.
I adore the illustration process in its entirety. From the mood boards to all the different sketches, Iva knows precisely what I am looking for, and I am so happy to have met her.
My Writing Style

Every book is brought to life through the incredible artistic talents of Iva Dukic, my longtime illustrator and creative partner. Together, we ensure that every page not only tells a story in words but also paints a picture that captures young imaginations.
Iva is a Croatian artist and illustrator, and she is renowned for her dreamy illustrations that often feature animals and magical creatures.
Born in Rijeka in 1989, Iva studied at the Academy of Applied Arts, where her passion for illustration blossomed, leading to her first illustrated books.
Graduating in 2015 with a thesis on the significance of picture books in children’s development, Iva continues to create enchanting illustrations of mystical creatures inspired by stories and legends.
Her work spans children’s books, cover designs, playing cards, magazine illustrations, and social media content.
